The art department at Acton Boxborough Regional High School has been a very important part of my life all four years of high school. Each class helped turn my hobby into a passion for creativity. I hope to use this passion to study graphic design and illustration next year in college.
The Broadside project has been such a fun experience. Each piece is so unique, even if inspired by the same poem. Tracy K. Smith's poem "Solstice" left me with a strong message about how desensitized we are to the tragic things we see in the news. She uses the imagery of geese being murdered, so I drew a goose with red circles protruding from the head to represent blood pouring out. However, I wanted to make the blood look pleasing to reiterate the fact that we are desensitized to the gruesome things we see. I also used newspaper cut outs to represent the news.
